PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. (KION) The number of bicycles reported stolen in Pacific Grove has doubled since last year, according to police.

So far this year, police say more than 50 bicycles have been stolen.

To prevent having a bicycle stolen, police recommend locking them up, preferably indoors. If that is not possible, they suggest storing it in an area that is not visible to people passing by.

The police department offers bicycle registration for free, so if a bicycle is stolen, officers have enough information to return it if it is found. A photo of the bicycle and the serial number are the most helpful, according to police.
